THE ADOPTION PROCESS
How does the process work?

The now extinct breeds Old English
Bulldog and Old English Terrier were
crossed to form the Bull  Terrier. It is
also known that Dalmatian comes
into their genetics, and this can be
seen by looking on the stomach area,
where dark, spotted pigment can be
seen on the skin. Around 1860, the
Bull and Terrier breed split into two
branches, the pure white Bull Terrier
and the coloured forms that lived on
for another seventy years in the dog
fighting pits until they finally were
recognized as a legitimate dog breed
called the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Pedigrees of Bull Terriers date from
the period during which the English
Stud books were first written (circa
1874-6). Although the breed was
developed from fighting dogs, the
Bull Terrier was intended to be a
show dog and companion.
The South Florida Bull Terrier Rescue League Inc.,  has its own policies for adoption
and for volunteers.

Please email us if you would like to know what the requirements to foster or volunteer
for SFBTRL. Volunteers are all considered "at will", for any reason a volunteers
services can be terminated with the exception of laws set forth in applicable laws.

We require all foster homes to go through the same home study process that an
adoptive parent does. In some States this is called MAPP certification.

Please email us for all the requirements.

Our volunteers if placing a dog, they verbally explain the introduction process should
the household have any other pets. Our process is merely a suggested process. It is
never a good idea to simply allow a new dog into a new home without a slow
introductory process that is closely supervised by the new owner. Just because a dog
was raised with a cat does not mean it will accept the new cats of the prospective
adoptive home.

We could always use more temporary foster homes. We encourage people to
inquire about fostering; It its much less expensive to have a rescue in a home rather
than putting a dog in a kennel. We can provide food. It is very rewarding to see a dog
go from a scared, skinny dirty creature into the loving hands of his/her new forever
home.

When we say
temporary we mean temporary, never would allow a foster family to
feel like they are trapped into holding a dog any longer than they want to.

We encourage breeders to contact us for dogs they wish to re-home. We have many
quality applicants waiting. These do no appear on the web site. We do many private
adoptions that also do not appear on this site simply because the placement is more
important than the web site entry.

We have access to low cost training and will even help you out with that if you are
local, or local to one of our volunteers.

When you adopt through us you are part of the family and we will continue to help
support you with referrals, services.

Sample painting. Artist Joe
Morweiser. Paintings are
available to bid on at National
Rescue Events as well as local
chapter groups. 100% of the
money is donated to rescue
funds or dogs in need.

Joe does not ever sell paintings
privately, they are solely created
for the benefit of Bull Terriers.
Many rescues that come in bad shape
transform into magnificent flowers.
They  are given a second chance at
life. This is Bullie, she is a snowbird.
She lives high on the horse today... as
you can tell. She has her remote and
everything ready for her right there.

She may be deaf but as you can see
she has one eye on that plate waiting
for permission. She is very smart.

Dad, ya gonna just leave that on the plate?
